2016 Blindspot movies

on

I’ve been seeing these lists being done by movie bloggers so I’m inspired to do this myself. Come to think of it, I’ve been meaning to watch some movies but never really got around to watching it. For those of you who don’t know, Blindspot is about picking a few movies that you’ve always wanted to watch but haven’t yet for various reasons – And to finally do it in the given year! Hopefully, I’ll watch them all and maybe write reviews on them 🙂 As you can see, I’m more into newer films.

Here are my movies…

The-Artist-Poster

The Artist: A silent black-and-white film that won Best Picture in 2011. A story about a fading actor reaching a nadir in his career and his growing feelings for a younger actress on the rise.

Casino poster

Casino: Directed by Martin Scorsese, I should expect a good gritty look at the mafia and their tussle for casino monopoly and control.

Persona poster.jpg

Persona: Stumbled across this film and found it extremely interesting. But I’ve been warned, it’s super disturbing as well. I think it’s art house? Rotten Tomatoes says its  ‘Arguably Bergman’s finest film, Persona explores the human condition with intense curiosity, immense technical skill, and beguiling warmth.’ It centers around a nurse who cares for an actress suffering for depression, but we soon realize that she too increasingly takes on the persona of her patient.

20-feet-from-stardom-poster

20 Feet From Stardom: Seems pretty cool! Finally we have something uplifting. Hopefully. It’s a documentary on the graft and hard-work of background singers, shedding light on a subject we so often take for granted and perhaps not even notice.

drive-poster.jpg

Drive: I’m super interested to see this one. I’ve heard it’s one of those very unique films and everyone seems to love it. So I’m not going to see the description of this.

2001-a-space-odyssey-poster.jpg

2001: A Space Odyssey: Who doesn’t love sci-fi films. Hailed as one of the best movies ever, I’m just gonna have to see this to believe it. Ex machina gave me something special. Can this one too?

a-separation-poster.jpg

A Separation: Rotten says it’s ” Morally complex, suspenseful, and consistently involving, A Separation captures the messiness of a dissolving relationship with keen insight and searing intensity.” and “Set in contemporary Iran, A Separation is a compelling drama about the dissolution of a marriage”. That’s enough to pique my interest. I’m wondering why I never got round to watching it.

catch me if you can poster.jpg

Catch Me If You Can: LEO. AND TOM HANKS. THAT IS ALL.

L.A.-Confidential_poster.jpg

L.A Confidential: A depiction of hazy L.A and it’s crime/police narratives. I’ve heard the film is like neo-noir styled, and exposes the crime underbelly and corrupt nature of the city. I love a good crime thriller. Kevin Spacey and Russell Crowe. Nuff said.

A fine list. Best of luck. You have some good choices. Casino is my personal favorite Scorsese flick and 2001: A Space Odyssey is in my top 5 favorites. LA Confidential is one that is a goal for 2016 as well.

They are very, very different movies but I loved the artistry behind them both. And Farhadi is one of my favorite working filmmakers.

Ok now you REALLY hyped it up, super excited to watch them. A separation looks dead serious, like the no jokes kind of film.

No jokes at all. A very serious character study. And Farhadi writes the most intensely authentic dialogue you’ll find.

You should see it, it’s like a modern take on Taxi Driver, but I think its better. It’s a satire of our media’s insatiable thirst for sensationalization. Jake Gyllenhaal was soo good.

  5. I’ve seen most of those movies and they were all excellent. I’m sure none will disappoint. But with the demise of video stores, it makes it harder to browse around, at least that’s what I think.

I am really behind on that list. I had to google “100 movies to watch before you die”. And I have watch barely 12 or 13. It is pathetic. Especially when I used to pride myself to be a “movie person”.
Your posts are awesome btw. I have been keeping an eye out for them. 🙂

Tell me about it. I let the fact slip that I haven’t watched The Godfather (is it just Godfather? Not sure.), and some people threw me a dirty look. So I thought I’ll start with the basics. :p
