About me

Hey there! I’m Jay and I write film criticism and movie reviews with a keen eye on society, culture and philosophy.

If you really like what I’m writing, please consider subscribing via email, giving me a follow on twitter or simply follow my blog on WordPress so that you can keep abreast of my latest posts.

I have a dream of making my own indie film. Let’s see where life takes me on that. But in the meantime, I’ll live out my passion for film through my reviews. It’s the simple things in life that really matter after all.

Hope you enjoy my blog! Let’s connect, and let me know what you think!

I will be in front of the TV for as many pre-walk the red carpet shows I can find and the Oscars :)….and I’m not a TV person.

Hey, nice to read your blog and I’m following you! It seems we are blogging about the same topic. If you have any tips on how I can further my blog that’d be greatly appreciated!

    1. Thanks for the follow! I’ve just followed you as well and your posts are really interesting and awesome 🙂
Haha this is one of the few times anyone has asked me for tips so I hope I can help 🙂 For me, I try to use tags that are more general and less specific (preferably some that are popular or trending tags on wordpress) to increase exposure. As we do movie reviews, tags like film, thoughts, writing, fiction, mental health, religion, race, love etc can be relevant depending on the type of post and movie review.

Stick to fifteen tags/categories so what I usually do is to have 1 category and 14 tags. WordPress won’t feature your posts as well in the tags if this combined number exceeds 15.

When I started blogging, I tried to follow as many film bloggers as well haha so that they would get to see your blog and hopefully follow back. Liking and commenting also helps no doubt. Follow other bloggers in the film community on twitter as well, and they’ll likely follow back. There’s tons of interesting bloggers on various blogging sites who are also on twitter and do various reviews, blog-collabs, podcasts on a range of topics in film so I think you’ll find many of them worth following. I just followed you on Twitter and I’m pretty lowkey on twitter but I have around 300-400 mutual followers so you can take a browse through my list and follow away!

Oh I would also suggest perhaps cutting the number of words on posts in general is likely to be more attractive to read. I don’t really follow this anyway because I believe if you have to write more words to fully express some idea, then I’ll just write it anyway. But if you can, try to keep it shorter 🙂
And lastly I guess blogging more often and commenting on other bloggers’ posts is the best way to further your blog. Hope you found my tips useful HAHA. I’m sure you’ll be able to reach a bigger audience in no time. I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts and reviews 😄

      1. Thanks for taking the time to reply! Yeah, I assumed about the word count as well. but I’m a philosophy major so it just comes natural to me to type as many words as I can fit. It would definitely be better to narrow it down. I’ll keep that in mind in my next posts. Thanks for the follow btw, greatly appreciated.

  18. Hey, I just discovered this blog and wanted to say that I love the look of it! Great design!

That being said, I just began blogging about movies too, and wanted to know if you happen to know any more moviebloggers out there. I’m that kind of person who wants to write blogs herself and not so much read blogs, but I want to change this. Yours is a great start! (You gained a follower btw 😉 )
